I decided that I am going to share some of my favorite reviews here on my author site. Not all of them. Just the ones I really like and think you might like too. I am an avid reader and I figured you guys might be interested in some of the stuff that I like to read. So! Here’s my first one! Strings by Kendall Grey!

WARNING: STRINGS is not suitable for slut shamers, uptight stone throwers, Holier-Than-Thou prudes, humorless virgins, persons with chronic neck or back pain, pearl-clutching bitties, those who disparage crude humor or vulgarity in their many forms, closed-minded people with sticks up their asses, or anyone under the age of 18. The vile, base language and shocking, unholy sexual acts contained herein are not condoned by anyone with a lick of sense and should certainly not be reproduced without proper training and protection. The potty-mouthed and perpetually horny “heroine” (the term is used loosely) of this book does not resemble a normal, well-adjusted, or remotely believable person in any way, shape, or form. The author acknowledges that the characters in this book are shallow and two-dimensional; the plot is both ridiculous and insipid. She makes no apologies for any of it.

* Readers are strongly advised to wear latex gloves whilst reading to minimize contamination risks.

Free-spirited musician Letty Dillinger adheres to a strict, “no strings attached” policy when it comes to men. Sharing close quarters on a bus with her sexy nemesis and his bad-boy buddies puts Letty’s Golden Rule to the test. On this tour, guitar strings aren’t the only things being played. And when heartstrings are pulled too hard, they’re bound to snap sooner or later.

I’m totally going to ride the coat tails of GINNY’S REVIEW by stating that this review, much like the warning in the synopsis of the book states, may not be suitable for all audiences. So if you’re got a heart condition or a serious problem with girls who have questionable morals, TURN BACK NOW!!!!

I want to preface this review by also stating that I dont read erotica. Not because I have a problem with it. I dont. I’ve just never taken the plunge and gotten into it. I’ll be honest, I have always viewed erotica as nothing more than porn in words. I WAS RIGHT, GODDAMMIT!!! SMUTTY, DIRTY, SMUTTY SMUT!!!!

Nah, I’m just kidding.

As a person, I love Kendall. We have been friends online for a while (thanks for Ginny telling me that I NEEEEEEEEEED to read the Inhale series) and she’s ALWAYS good entertainment. Good education too! She’s where I learned the phrase “holy shitpops!” When she started talking about the release of Strings, I was intrigued by what I am now dubbing as eROCKtica. We are naming the genre. You heard it here first folks. I am making it a thing. eROCKtica. Trademark Pure Textuality 2013. Tell your neighbors.

Well, you might want to be careful who you tell actually…

A few nights before I started reading this book, I went out and celebrated World Book Night with Ginny. We gave out lots of books and dished lots of books. I mentioned to her that I wanted to read Strings and she proceeded to give me a relative warning about the contents of the book. See that warning up above??? That shit is NO JOKE!

This may not come as a shock to some of you but Kendall Grey’s eROCKtica (like what I just did there???) isn’t just porn on a page. From all of Ginny’s ravings, I knew she was a good author but I didn’t know she was next level. Around all the waggling man junk and lovely lady parts, Strings is a GREAT story that I was immediately sucked into. That was not meant to be dirty. Get your mind out of the gutter!

We kick off this book meeting our main character Letty. Right out of the gate, she had me DYING laughing. This chick is beyond funny and completely lacks the ability to use the filter most of us are born with that resides somewhere between our brains and our mouths. Within the first ten pages or so, you are given more than enough proof to know that this chick has ZERO inhibitions about anything. As we make our way to the first sex scene, my reaction was “Oh…….oh god……she’s really gonna…….YEP! She did!! Holy hell!!” Not for the squeamish. That’s all I have to say about that. wink wink

Shades is the male lead in this filthy little story and he’s every bit as much fun as Letty is. No inhibitions. Totally open to “whatever”. Physically, he’s the guy every father on this planet dreads his little princess hooking up with and every mother on this planet secretly WANTS to hook up with. He’s so much fun!

The story is very well written. Usually that much sex in a book you can blow through in one afternoon would seem wasted and forced but (and yes, I am going to use this) it is kind of necessary for the story line. In a weird way, you really see the evolution of the dynamic between these two just in the way they bone.

I am giving Strings 5 lady boners! This was a super-fun introduction into the world of eROCKtica for me. I am sooo going to use the SHIT out of that word now. eROCKtica eROCKtica eROCKtica eROCKtica eROCKtica eROCKtica eROCKtica eROCKtica eROCKtica eROCKtica eROCKtica eROCKtica eROCKtica eROCKtica eROCKtica eROCKtica eROCKtica

In regards to the author, I think it is high time I actually READ the copy of Inhale that has been sitting on my Kindle for months! I am looking forward to reading more of Kendall’s work. She’s knows how to tell a story and tell it well. Even if it is laced with Goerge Carlin’s 7 Dirty Words. Seriously, this chick swears just as bad as Ginny and I. THAT is saying something!

Well, I took a chance and did it.  5 days of being able to give it away free is better than no days.  I spent that 90 days trying like hell to figure out how to make it free on Amazon once I was done with the KDP Select program.  I was told by the lovely Amber Lynn Natusch that if I put it up on iBooks for free, Amazon would price match it and POOF!  It would be FREE!  Yeah, getting it onto iBooks is much easier said than done.  The formatting alone was going to take much, much longer than I wanted to invest in something that I could get around much more simply.  So, after twice failing to get iBooks to accept my file, I decided I would shelve it and go at it again another day. 

As I got closer to my 90-Day mark for the KDP Select program, I started thinking about the iBooks thing again but decided to wait until after my vacation to do anything about it.  This morning, I realized that my 90 days was up and I could put it back up on Kobo.  Then it hit me…

KOBO!!!!  I re-uploaded Burning to Kobo.  I had removed it from Kobo to abide by the KDP Select guidelines of not having it for sale anywhere else.  When I put it back up there this morning, Kobo allowed me to list it for free.  So it is back to being live on Kobo…FOR FREE!!!  My hope is that through Amazon’s price matching dealy-bob (which I have already submitted the Kobo link for), they will see that the fabulous folks at Kobo have it for free and will make it free on their site too.  I will keep you all posted on whether or not that works out.

I also have to extend a thank you on this scene to my dear friend and AMAZING author Ginny Lurcock.  She’s my brainstorming buddy when I get stuck and when I was writing this scene, I knew what I wanted to say but was having trouble getting it out there.  She talked me through it, lending a few ideas and this scene was the product of that.  She’s awesome and should be on everyone’s radar.

“So?” Michael looked at her expectantly.

“Not going to be a problem anymore,” Deziree assured him as she set her glass on the table and waived a waitress over.  “As it turns out, Mr. Roberts would very much appreciate the ability to maintain his position on the mortal plane.”  She took four shots from the waitress’s tray.  They were the novelty kind in plastic test tubes, each one filled with a different brightly colored mixture.  She dropped a fifty dollar bill on the waitress’s tray and the woman started to dig out change.  “You’re all set,” Dez purred and winked at the buxom brunette.

Deziree enthusiastically downed the first shot and then leaned forward and smiled at Michael.  “Did you know,” she started as she held her hand up in front of him, “that there are 27 bones in a human hand?”  Michael looked at her hand in confusion.

“Not that I am against higher learning but why am I getting an anatomy lesson in a bar?”

“Well,” Deziree explained, “not to brag or anything but I just broke 54 bones in that gentleman’s body.  Oddly enough, by the time I was through with the second hand, Mr. Roberts no longer had any interest in pursuing his recent activities involving your client.”  She drank down her other shot and smiled, obviously proud of herself.  “Sadly, I do believe Mr. Happy is going to be quite neglected for some time.  Serves the man right, all things considered.  Thinking with that particular head is what landed him in that nasty little room with me in the first place.  When I left, he was headed for the back exit.  I imagine he’s going to need some help with that door handle.”

Hey readers!  Jena here.  As most of you are aware, Pure Textuality is a site that is a lover of all books – traditional and indie published alike.  A rising problem in the publishing industry as a whole is the piracy of eBooks.

As an indie author, I can tell you that there is a LOT of work that goes into publishing one single title.  Not only work but also money out of our own pocket.  The reality of being an indie publisher is that there is very little return on our investment unless we happen to be one of the lucky ones that hits it big.  Whether the author is extremely successful or just getting started, eBook piracy is the same thing as walking into their house and stealing their money.

More and more sites are being found out and shut down for taking copies of legally purchased books, stripping away the protections and duplicating the file.  They are then either putting them on the internet for free or (worse in my eyes) putting them up for sale at a discounted price, of which they collect 100% (self-published authors only take a small percentage of their book’s list price).

Another rising problem is bloggers.  Oh, I hate even bringing this up, and I assure you that Pure Textuality is not one of them.  There is a problem happening with bloggers who receive free books turning around and giving them away.  Essentially, this is the same thing as piracy.

As these sites are being found out, authors are fighting back.  Both traditionally published and self-published are taking a stand.  And I am reaching out to you now, not just as a reader and book blogger but also as an author to show your support.  Below are two images – one for readers and one for authors to support the fight against eBook piracy.  I encourage you to share it.  Post it on your blog.  Put it up on Twitter.  Put it up on Facebook.  Email it to your friends.  Spread the word.  eBook piracy is a crime.  Every bit as much as stealing a car is a crime.  The amount of money being stolen shouldn’t matter.  Stealing is stealing.
